ABOUT THE 1 DAY CLASSES:

This upholstery workshop is suitable for experienced or non-experienced upholsterers alike. Classes are informal and tuition will be given to guide you through your upholstery project. We can give you guidance on what can be completed at home should you not finish your project during the day or have booked a weekly class and wish to work on your project between classes.

Group sizes are 4 - 7 people 

This workshop includes the use of tools and sundries such as tacks, threads etc.  You will have access to the tools and equipment required to use for both modern and traditional upholstery projects. Other materials apart from top fabric can be purchased at the studio.  These are costed at trade price.

You will need to bring your own top fabric suitable for your project.

If new to upholstery, it’s advisable to start with a beginner project such as a drop seat, piano stool or footstool so that you have the basic skills ready to tackle larger projects.  

Those of you with prior upholstery experience may want to come along for a bit of encouragement with a project you are currently working on.

ABOUT THE EVENING CLASSES

These classes are suitable again for both beginners and more experienced upholsterers. The evening classes are for 2 hours each week on a Tuesday.    Each student will receive a price list at the beginning of the course should they need to purchase materials as they go.  Furniture can be left in the studio between classes if there is sufficient space.  Refreshments are included.

ABOUT THE 2 DAY TRADITIONAL UPHOLSTERY TASTER COURSE:

This course is designed as an introduction to the basic skills of traditional upholstery.  You will learn about tools and materials used to build a traditional seat or stool pad.

You will learn how to strip your chair and prepare you frame before rebuilding a hair pad using webbing, hessian and calico before covering with your choice of top fabric.

What do I bring ? You will need to bring your own chair  or stool along with the top fabric. No more than 1 metre will be required. A linen union, upholstery weight cotton or velvet is perfect. 

The ideal piece of furniture would be a drop in seat chair, a piano stool or pin cushion seat.  I can send images of these to help when you are looking around.  If you  have an alternative piece , please send an image to check for suitability. 

Bring a packed lunch or pre order food from the cafe. 

What is included?  All tools and padding materials are included along with refreshments.​​

IMPORTANT INFO:

This workshop includes a constant flow of refreshments, however, lunch is not included so please bring a packed lunch with you.  Food can also be purchased from the onsite café .

Please wear shoes that cover your toes and avoid wearing your best clothing - just in case.

Payments are non refundable. If you do need to cancel last minute I can transfer your payment to an alternative date available.
