MODERN DRUM LAMPSHADE
½ DAY COURSE | £45
Learn how to make a professionally finished, modern drum lampshade (30cm) in a morning or afternoon session (2.5 hours) at one of our upholstery workshops in Norwich or Spalding. This lampshade-making workshop is suitable for experienced or non-experienced upholsterers alike. Classes are informal and tuition will be given to guide you through your lampshade-making project.
The frame and lining for your 30cm drum lampshade are supplied as well as all the materials and tools you will need for this course, apart from your outside fabric. You will need to bring your own outside fabric suitable for your project - cotton or cotton-linen mix fabrics are perfect for this project. You will need ½ a metre of fabric.
You can come along to any of the upholstery classes in Spalding or Norwich (either morning or afternoon) to make a lampshade - please see the full list of dates below.
NOTES: This workshop includes a constant flow of refreshments. For workshops in Spalding, food can be purchased from the onsite cafe. Please wear shoes that cover your toes and avoid wearing your best clothing - just in case.
PLEATED
TRADITIONAL LAMPSHADE
1 DAY COURSE | £120
In 1 day you will learn the skills needed to make a pleated lampshade with a balloon lining and contrasting bias trim.
This style of lampshade usually takes 2 days so in order for us to finish in a day you will be provided with a pre cut lining in white cotton lawn and all the other materials for your lampshade .
You will learn how to bind the frame , how a pattern for the lining can be measured, how to mark out the frame and lining for pleats. We then move on to pinning and sewing by hand the fabric in place for the pleated fabric. This is followed by machine sewing our balloon lining and securing this in position before stitching by hand. The final phase is marking out and sewing our bias binding to fit snuggly on the top and bottom frame before then being shown different techniques to secure it in place.
The frame and lining for your lampshade are supplied as well as all the materials and tools you will need for this course. The frame supplied is a 25cm straight-sided empire frame with a fitting for a table lamp. As this is an intensive one day class your outside fabric is also supplied along with bias binding. This will all be pre cut to size. The fabric will be a light weight cotton lawn.
NOTES: This workshop includes a constant flow of refreshments, however, lunch is not included and so please bring a packed lunch with you. For workshops in Spalding, food can be purchased from the onsite café .
Please wear shoes that cover your toes as we are in a workshop environment.
