FRENCH MATTRESS MAKING WORKSHOPS

2 DAY COURSE

Dates: 16th & 17th May 2024  NOW FULLY BOOKED

              6th and 7th June

Location: Unique Cottage Studios Fulney Lane Spalding PE12

Cost: £130.00

ABOUT THE COURSE

This workshop will teach you how to make your own French mattress cushion. The skills learnt across the weekend can then be transferred into making your own at home for a window sill, day bed, floor cushions, garden seat cushions or even dog bed. The sample we make in class will have a foam insert covered in wadding and will measure approximately 40x40cm.

You will start by cutting and covering the foam in wadding before machine stitching a box cover.  You will need to bring your own cover fabric suitable for your project - linen or linen union fabrics are ideal for this project. 1 metre of fabric should be enough. You will then mark out and use French mattress stitches to create that lovely edging before finally making your own covered buttons or traditional tuft buttons to finish it off.

This class is designed for students with some sewing machine experience. Feel free to bring your own sewing machine if you prefer.  Class sizes are small.  No more than 5 people.

Classes are informal and tuition will be given to guide you through your French mattress-making project.

NOTES: This workshop includes refreshments. For workshops in Spalding, food can be purchased from the onsite café. Please wear shoes that cover your toes and avoid wearing your best clothing - just in case.
